Caprese salad originally comes from Italy where it is called Insalata Caprese. It became famous on the Isle of Capri, thus the name “Caprese.” It has become a common choice on menus all over America and Europe. All Caprese salads have tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Usually, there is also basil included.

Super Simple Caprese Salad


Make a simple, delicious Caprese salad with the freshest ingredients! Make a salad at home that is better than what you get at restaurants – in only a few minutes! Plus, learn to vary it to please different palates.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint grape tomatoes - cut in half
  • 8 ounces Mozzarella pearls or cubes
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves - torn
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper


Instructions

  1. Add tomatoes, cheese and basil to a medium size bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl or mason jar, mix olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Pour over salad and gently toss. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and toss to mix. Serve immediately.
  3. **Best served at room temperature. Can be stored in refrigerator for two days.
